Father Michael Mireau Youth Faith Day Returns This March
Edmonton Catholic Schools will welcome thousands of Grade 8 students to this year’s Father Michael Mireau Youth Faith Day, taking place from March 18 to 25, 2026 at St. Charles Church. The annual celebration brings students together for prayer, music, learning, and a shared encounter with Christ that strengthens their sense of belonging as young people growing in faith.
This event, named in honour of the late Father Michael “Catfish” Mireau, has long been a meaningful experience for students. Known for his engaging use of pop culture, including lightsabers and superheroes, Father Michael left a legacy of reaching young people in ways that helped them see faith as joyful, approachable, and alive.
A Division-Wide Faith Experience for Grade 8 Students
Over six mornings, every Grade 8 class across ECSD will gather for a half-day experience that includes a Eucharistic Celebration and a presentation by internationally acclaimed Catholic youth speaker Jesse Manibusan. His message encourages students to view their faith as active, joyful, and lived out every day.
This Year’s Theme: Serve Like a Superhero
This year’s theme, Serve Like a Superhero, continues Father Michael Mireau’s legacy of inspiring students to recognize their gifts as God given strengths. The theme invites students to consider their talents as their “superpowers” and to use them in service to others.
Examples include:
- offering kindness
- including a classmate who feels left out
- standing up for someone who needs support
These everyday actions remind students that leadership and love are lived through simple, meaningful choices.
Supporting Faith Formation in ECSD
Youth Faith Day is a key part of faith formation in Edmonton Catholic Schools. The event supports our mission to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another.
At the January 28 Public Meeting of the Board of Trustees, Trustees received an update on preparations for Youth Faith Day, reaffirming the Division’s commitment to offering meaningful faith formation experiences for students.
We thank St. Charles Parish for hosting our students and staff once again, and we pray that this year’s celebration strengthens the faith, confidence, and sense of community of all who attend.
